Looking Glass
Looking Glass is a collection of eighteen works on paper and canvas that focus on a personal narrative about coming of age, explored through self-portraiture, metaphor, and storytelling. Each piece focuses on a single aspect of the “self” and translates such into a personified character.
Through the theatrical elements of still life, each character deeply contemplates a single action and/or plays out a moment of a storyline that exists within a disjointed environment. Each character is a meditation on the darker and lighter sides of a human experience, that is drawn from my lived experiences, and reflects on how dual aspects of my identity come together to create a whole individual. I am interested in how self-interrogation, starting with the individual, can manifest external change within the collective.
